I have a Dell laptop Inspiron 5010 and when moving the volume to 100%, I can barely hear the sound. My husband has a Dell Inspiron N5110 (we both have Windows 7) and his sound is supreme! (My 100% is his 20%!) I have matched all of his settings to my machine and my volume still is unacceptable. I'm trying to edit music on my laptop and I can't hear it accurately! A Dell sales tech suggested I buy another srs sound card. What do you think?

I'm not tech savvy, so I'll have to take this to someone to install the new card. Could this be something easy like a sound driver problem?? I'd appreciate your suggestions!

The problem is either in the hardware or the audio driver. Although the Inspiron 15 N5010 and the Inspiron 15R N5110 both have IDT audio hardware, they do not share the same IDT audio driver, so that could explain the difference (or it could be a hardware issue). I suggest you try all of the available audio drivers for your model to see if one gives greater volume. The 2 IDT drivers available: (older) (newer) You currently have either one of those or the Windows native audio driver. I suggest you go about it like this.
